A Real Estate Professional Never Stops Learning.

When a real estate professional reaches a desired position, level of training or certain measure of productivity there is a temptation to slack off. This is a very dangerous place to be. It will definitely stunt a professional’s growth and it will hamper their client’s ability to maximize their real estate investment. Rick Warren, influential pastor of Saddleback Church and author of The Purpose Driven Life, says, “The moment you stop learning is the moment you stop leading (your client).” If you want to become more successful as a Realtor, you have to learn. If you want to continue to be successful as a Realtor, you must continue to learn. This will guarantee that you will be hungry for even greater accomplishments in your career. And even more importantly it will help you maintain credibility with your clients.

As a real estate professional every time you get better, so does your clients (they get better results). As you continue to learn, your clients get smarter as well. As Realtors we don’t learn from reading books, but rather through understanding that every person has the potential to teach us something. Maintaining an ongoing attitude of teachability is essential to being a continual learner and an excellent Realtor. Usually the greatest obstacle to success isn’t ignorance or lack of intelligence. It’s the illusion of knowledge. One of the great dangers in a real estate professional’s life is believing they have acquired all of the knowledge. If that happens, they’re done growing.

Successful Realtors don’t see learning or achievement as a fixed destination to head for, and, having arrived, to settle into – completed and finished. One of the most engaging characteristics is their infectious desire to keep moving into the future, generating new challenges for themselves, and living with a sense that there is more to learn and accomplish. They understand that they can’t get their clients the results they are looking for by playing it safe all the time and staying in a safe harbor.

If you want to be an excellent Realtor, you’ve got to be a good learner.

To grow professionally from becoming an average Realtor and then becoming an excellent one won’t happen automatically, it has to be intentional. A person needs to adopt a plan for both personal and professional growth in their life to meet the dynamics of an ever-changing Southern California housing market. A Realtor won’t reach their full potential by accident. The secret to their success can always be found in their daily agendas. How they prioritize their time with their clients can be directly viewed in their client’s results. If a Realtor does something intentional to grow each day, the more closer they come to reaching their full potential, and becoming a truly outstanding Realtor.

An Excellent Realtor Manages Their Time More Effectively: Maximizing Their Clients Returns.

A Realtor squanders their time when they do things that bring them or their client’s little or no positive return. If a real estate professional wants to lead from the front, maximize their effectiveness and productivity as a Realtor, they will learn how to best utilize the time allocated them in each twenty-four period. If a professional is not managing their time effectively they are wasting their lives and squandering their potential and are no longer leading but rather following other Realtors. They are hurting their clients because they are squandering the potential of their client’s (they are not using their time wisely to aggressively search for the home that best matches their client’s goals…).

To be a top-not Realtor you can’t undervalue your own uniqueness and do what others want you to do. If you bend to the expectations of the real estate industry, you have essentially become a puppet and you are managing your time like ninety-percent of the other real estate agents out there. A real estate professional’s ability to maximize their time is essential to their productivity and effectiveness when representing a client. Nothing else distinguishes top-level Realtors as much as their careful consideration of time. Every professional’s days are like identical suitcases. Even though they are all the same size, some Realtors are able to pack more into them than others. The reason? They know what to pack. A real estate professional will succeed by learning what to pack in the time allocated to them.

Why are some Realtors always ten minutes early to an appointment while others seem to always be ten minutes late? The first group understands that time is an equal-opportunity employer; everybody gets twenty-four hours a day – no more, not less – but not everybody gets the same return on their twenty-four hours. Second, there really is no such thing as “time management.” The expression is an oxymoron. Time cannot be managed. It cannot be controlled in anyway. It keeps on ticking forward not matter what we do, the same way the meter in a taxi keeps running.

Every real estate professional gets the same number of hours and minutes every day. Nobody – no matter how shrewd – can save minutes from one day to spend on another. No scientist – not matter how smart – is capable of creating new minutes.

A Realtor can’t manage their time, so what can they do? Manage themselves! Nothing separates excellent Realtors from ordinary Realtors more than how they use their time. Successful Realtors understand that time is the most precious commodity on earth. As a result, they know where there time goes. They continually analyze how they are using their time and ask themselves the question, “Am I getting the best us of my time?”

In his book What to Do Between Birth and Death: The Art of Growing Up, Charles Spezzano writes, “You don’t really pay for things with money, you pay for them with time. In five years, I’ll have put enough away to buy that vacation house we want. Then I’ll slow down. That means the house will cost you five years – one-twelfth of your adult life. Translate the dollar value of the house, car, or anything else into time, and then see if it’s still worth it.”
