A true real estate professional is able to accept mistakes as the price of progress.

If a professional isn’t making any mistakes, it means they weren’t in the game in the first place.

The person interested in personal or professional success has to learn to view failure as a healthy, inevitable part of the process of getting to the top. Nothing is perfect in this life – if fact if you think about it, nearly everything is broker. The United Nations is broker, our ecosystem is broken, our economy is broken, heck our bathroom sink is broken… If a Realtor wants to move to the top of the class they better start getting used to making mistakes and having failures in their professional careers. If a personal wants to move
forward, they are going to make mistakes.

The trick to advancing in the real estate industry while making mistakes along the way is to insist on learning from your mistakes. There is nothing less productive in a person’s career (assuming that they want to become the best that they can be) than for them to come to the end of the day and say on their own report card, “will, I made it through the end of the day without screwing up.” There are two common responses Realtors have concerning failure. While one Realtor hesitates because he feels inferior to the other agents in the organization, the other Realtor is busy making mistakes, learning from them, and becoming superior.

Realtors can either run from mistake and hurt themselves, or learn from them and help themselves, which will ultimately benefit their client because they are now dealing with a more productive, confident and reliable real estate professional. The Realtor who always takes the safe road and will try to avoid failure at all costs will never learn and ends up repeating the same mistakes over and over again. But those professionals who are willing to learn from their failures never have to repeat them again, gaining wisdom through failure.
Greg Steinaker discusses why it is important for a real estate professional to be able to accept mistakes as the price of progress in their own careers
